A very good English School early 19th century portrait of a young lady .It is an oil on canvas circa 1820-1840 .The young lady is seated wearing a fine red velvet dress holding a flower symbolic of her purity and virtue .Behind her is a classical column of a country house and a landscape stretching far into the distance .No visible signature or reference as the canvas has been relined . However the artist was a highly trained professional in his genre, capturing the feel of all the different surfaces and detail with an effective use of light and shade to express depth and intensity .
