Ecopetrol S.A. is responsible for the total production of crude oil and gas in the country obtained by means of direct and associated operations.The operation includes the extraction, collection, treatment, storage and pumping or compression of hydrocarbons.
With operations throughout the national territory, Ecopetrol has four management divisions to handle the operation of 163 production fields.
In 2009, the total daily oil production in the country was 672 barrels a day (kbpd), 426 kbpd of which were Ecopetrol´s (including holding in direct and associated operations).
