Swimming paddles, made of plastic and rectangular shaped, which we don't recommend, create too much resistance, in our opinion. While they may help build muscle, prolonged use may also lead to shoulder injuries, by exaggerating poor technique. Fabric gloves, on the other hand (pun not intended), create just enough extra resistance to help you improve your feel for the water, by not letting your hand slip too quickly through it, but without straining your shoulder.
