Tapered roller bearings are used to support combined radial and axial loads with the radial load prevailing. They limit the axial displacement of shaft or housing in one direction. No inclination of shaft relating to the bore of housing is allowed since additional axial force will be caused by the radial load acting load on the bearing. It is general practice to mount bearings in pairs on the two shaft journals.
