Standard and Custom
For radial loads that require a low profile,
Hartford Technologies manufactures a broad range
of easy-to-install needle bearings.
Needle bearings reduce friction and transmit
torque most efficiently in applications such as off-highway
and oil patch equipment, drive shafts, outboard engines
and air compressors. High load needle bearings are specified for
operations involving static loads, low speeds, or oscillation.
These needle bearings are used on a metal strapping tensioner tool used
to strap a metal band around a skid of product. The bearing is located in
the headset, at the hinge point. The material for the outer race and rollers
is chrome steel, hardened to Rc 60-62.
Formerly, there was a metal sleeve in the headset. Binding in the headset
was caused by the force required to pull the strapping to secure the load to
the skid. The needle bearings manufactured for the application by Hartford
allow a smoother rotation of the headset and eliminate the binding. As a
result, a stronger strapping can be achieved.
This is just one of the unique needle bearings manufactured by
Hartford for the packaging industry.
