Tapered roller bearing belongs to separable bearing. The roller, cage and inner ring constitute as cone. The cone could be mounted separately with outer ring. The raceway of inner ring and outer ring is tapered and could fill taper roller. This type of bearing could carry radial and axial jointed load. The bearing axial load is determined by contact angular α( raceway angular of outer ring). The bigger theα, the heaver of axial load carried. According to the number of row of rollers, this type of bearing could be divided into single, double and four row tapered roller bearing.
The single row tapered roller bearing could carry radial load and single directional axial load.
When the bearing carry radial load, it could generate one axial component force. Normally, the single row tapered roller bearing needs balance by one bearing that could carry opposite axial load.
Double row tapered roller bearing consists of one outer ring with double raceway and two inner rings. There is one middle spacer between two inner rings. The clearance of bearing could be adjusted through changing the thickness of spacer. Double row tapered roller bearing could carry radial load as well as double directional axial load. It could limit double axial directional displacement of shaft or housing within the scope of axial clearance. Double row tapered roller bearing is mainly used on the middle or low speed circumstance.
The four row tapered roller bearing is similar to double row tapered roller bearing on performance. It could carry heaver radial load. The limiting speed for such bearing is lower. It could be mainly used on heavy duty machine. Such as: working roll neck of rolling mills, roll neck of cogging mills.
The pressed steel cages are usually used to the four row tapered roller bearing. For large-size bearings, the pin-type cages are used.
