The alternator freewheeling pulley is an important component that is increasingly used in the latest diesel and high performance petrol motor vehicles. The freewheeling pulley is the ideal solution to the evolution of latest generation engines and to the increasing electrical performance of alternators.

The freewheeling pulley compensates for the inertia generated within the alternator through the constant acceleration and deceleration of the engine. To disengage the alternator from the rotational irregularities of the crankshaft, Semtop has developed an overrunning clutch belt pulley. This belt pulley is assembled on the alternator shaft. The freewheeling pulley offers several advantages to the auxiliary belt system:
