Picture this scenario: You're docked Mediterranean style in Monaco. Your yacht has a combination of one QIS hydraulic power unit and two main engine auxiliary power take-off pumps. Hydraulic consumers on the vessel include a 4-fin Zero-Speed stabilizer system as well as a passerelle, 2 aft capstans, 1 forward anchor, and a bow thruster. It is late in the evening you're ready to board. - You call for the passerelle by remote control.
- The QIS system receives a signal from a consumer.
- Since the main engines are secured, the QIS hydraulic power unit automatically starts. Because just one electric motor is started and not a diesel engine, the crew and guests aboard are not startled awake.
- The QIS system conserves energy by providing only enough power for the passerelle, and by not stroking to full power to run the system's largest consumer, typically a thruster.
- After you're on board, the passerelle turns off and after standing by for a preset amount of time (engineered specifically for each consumer) the QIS system shuts off the pumps and awaits the next signal to start up again.
