The most critical application in a Power Station is theBoiler Feed Pump Minimum Flow Recirculation Service. A pumpshould have a minimum Flow through it to take care of the coolingrequirements of the Pump. The purpose of this control valve isto maintain a minimum flow through the pump by diverting back tothe deaerator. This valve prevents damage to the feedpump thatoccurs at low flow.
The parameters are obviously very detrimental for anyvalve to handle. The valve has to drop a pressure of 220-250 bar to10 bar(Deaerator pressure). Also it may be noted that the outletconditions of the valve are near saturation, and hece the valve isvery susceptible to high energy Cavitaion andFlashing.
