“Point to Point GPRS” Remote-reading WaterMeter Solution
According to client’s requests, we combined with existinginternational technical standards, designed the solution of “pointto point GPRS” Remote-reading.
- A. Technicalspecifications
a. System Components
Some power-free direct-read water meter, GPRStransceiver control circuit, SIM card, antenna, GPRS transceiver inwater supply department and Computer Software.
b. The Standard of the Water Meter
The water meter requires DN15 Rotary-vanewet-dial, non-toxic metal mechanical water meter. The permanentflow rate Q3 is 2500L/h; R(Q3/Q1)=100, adaptive temp:0.1--30°C, applied no-working pressure of the pipeline is over1.0MPa, the pressure loss is less than 0.063MPa. The standardcounter registration is Liters. The printing and instruction areboth in English.
c. Wireless Communication
The GPRS transceiver can be setter up by time,flow, randomly or manually to remote-reading one or more watermeter on selected area
d. Function Extension
If the valve control is required for cutting offthe water supply cause by overdue payment, the system shall addbackup batteries.
Monitor real-time flow and rate, and willautomatically upload report by reaching the preselected amount, forexample, 3000L.

- D. TheDescription of The Working Process
Before the installation, the water supplydepartment needs to plug a SIM card into each water meter’s GPRStransceiver.
Before confirm this solution, the GPRScharge needs to consult with location network provider, such asopen account, monthly plan, service packages and so on. The bestoption is charge as the usage of the GPRS.
After the installation, each watermeter can upload the data by GPRS, the water supply department’sGPRS transceiver initiatively call the water meter. Therefore, intheory, there is no limited on each GPRS transceiver can call howmany water meters.
The water supply department’s GPRStransceiver communication with the Computer by through the serialport 232, and the Company Application system and data base has allthe information about the end-user. This software can manually orautomatically complete remote-reading water meter.
- E. System OperationInstruction
The software includes: user profile, remote control, paymentcollect, data analyze, report print, system parameter setting.

- a. Administrative center computer, GPRSfacilities
Firewall: the purpose is to setup a security spot which inspectboth internal and external network safety. The data switch betweenserver and water meter will be verifying before transfer. It alsocan block most internet attack in order to protect the wholenetwork.
UPS power: when the electric supply stops, it ensures databaseserver, computer, print and other facilities keep working.
- b. Network between each water supply department
Install the software on each department’s computer, and connectinternet; run the software, and then the data is exchanging betweeneach department in order to achieve real time.
- c. Remote-reading and real time control
The GPRS transceiver can be setter up by time,flow, randomly or manually to remote-reading one or more watermeter on selected area. It also can cut down unusual user’s waterby controlling valve (option: for water meter has valve controlfunction)
- d. Blacklist
The system will automatically analyze data, and report unusualuser to operator. Operator can make action. For the unusual user,system will send a warning massage or supervisor.
- e. Search and report
The system can search user info, such as address, name, contactinfo, water meter info, payment history and so on; also will countwater usage by day, month, year and report as forms or figures.
