Production in Austria is performed in a symbiotic manner the raw material, pulp, is produced at the same site as the Modal fiber itself so that energy and other resources are conserved. Edelweiss is carbon-neutralLenzing Modal® Is Edelweiss, because the fiber from Austria is carbon-neutral. Thanks to full integration at the manufacturing site, Lenzing Modal® Can be produced in a carbon-neutral way. This full integration pulp and fiber production at one site generates recoverable energy and reusable materials contained in wood. In fact, pulp production at Lenzing is energy self-sufficient and is the most important energy supplier for the Modal production process.

Edelweiss is an environmental innovation
Environmental technology for fiber productionLenzing is a pioneer in the field of organic refineries for wood. The processes required for this were developed at Lenzing and are not commercially available. With the Lenzing process, the thermal use of wood's component parts is carbonneutral. Many environmental innovations from Lenzing have been integrated into the Lenzing Modal® Production process. This is especially true for "Edelweiss technology" which utilizes oxygen-based chemistry. Thus Lenzing Modal® Is produced in an eco-friendly manner, from the pulp through to the fiber.

Edelweiss stands for beechwood
Lenzing Modal® Is a beechwood fiberLenzing Modal® Is a beechwood fiber. It is made from the wood of the beech tree, a unique tree which has a long history in Europe. Beechwood forests grow in Northern and Central Europe where they shape the landscapes of these regions. Beech trees reproduce by "rejuvenation" so reforestation or plantations are not necessary. More than half of the wood used at Lenzing comes locally from Austria and the remainder from neighboring countries. Beechwood is harvested exclusively from forests which comply with the respective forestry laws and are managed in a sustainable manner
