                                                          Rubber bearing for constraction 1.Basic DesignConsideration 

For elastomeric bearing, the shear stiffness is an importantparameter for design because it influences the force transferbetween the bridge and its piers. In essence, elastomers areflexible under shear deformation but it is relatively stiff incompression. However, elastomeric bearings should not be used intension.

 

Elastomeric bearing should be designed in serviceability limitstate only. The cross sectional area is normally determined by thecompressive stress limited under serviceability limit state. Theshape factor, i.e. plan area of the laminar layer divided by areaof perimeter free to bulge, affects the relation between shearstress and the compressive load. In essence, higher capacity ofbearings could be obtained with higher shape factor.

 

The long side of the bearing is usually oriented parallel to theprinciple axis of rotation because it facilitates rotationalmovement. The thickness of bearings is limited and controlled byshear strain requirements. In essence, the shear strain should beless than a certain limit to avoid the occurrence of rolling overat the edges and delamination due to fatigue. Hence, it followsthat higher rotations and translations require thicker bearing. onthe other hand, the vertical stiffness of bearings is obtained byinserting sufficient number of steel plates. In addition, checksshould be made on combined compression and rotation to guardagainst the possible occurrence of uplifting of corners of bearingsunder certain load combinations

 

 

 

 

2. Warranty on Laminated Elastomeric bearings manufactured andsupplied by us.

Though Neoprene Rubber , Natural Rubber and PTFE- Teflon hasbeen non bio-degradable over last 50 years, a warranty is given forlimited years for Laminated Elastomeric Bearings./ Pot Bearings/PTFE Teflon sliding bearings manufactured and supplied by usprovided these Bearings are chosen for appropriate load /movementand utmost care is taken during the time of installation onplacement.

Bearings designed/ manufactured and supplied by us are based onTechnical Information on Vertical Load, horizontal movements,horizontal load, etc provided by Client, Consultant, BridgeDesigner. Any variations to above forces, movements in excessive toa higher value during time of installation as well as service, candamage these bearings permanently and such damages does not coverour warranty and will not be responsible for any other financialloses caused by such damage.

 

Under one roof with stringent quality control, with technicaland marketing support from our Technical Partners, we manufactureneoprene bridge bearings, PTFE pipe supports, laminate elastomericbearings, bearing pads, pot bearings, PTFE sliding bearings etcfitted to AASHTO / BS / DIN specifications.

 

 

 3.Mounting and Placement of theBearings

 

The bearings are mounted in pairs and symmetrically to the trackaxis (see also pictures 4 and 5). In order to be able to mount thebearings and to replace them if necessary, the concrete elements ofthe Mass-Spring-System are provided with inspection holes. Withcast in situ concrete elements,the elastomeric bearings are mostlybuilt in subsequently. For that the concrete elements have to belifted after they have hardened. This happens by means of crossbeams fixed to the concrete elements (picture 1) and hydraulicpresses pushing upwards the beams and elements

 

respectively (picture 2). The inspection holes are then used topush the bearings into their final positions underneath theconcrete component (picture 3).

 

In comparison,prefabricated components can be put straight ontothe elastomeric bearings which were put into position before.

 

 

4. Neoprene Elastomeric Bridge Bearings Pads Usages& Advantages

Elastomeric bearings shall be composed of multiple laminates ofelastomeric material separated by steel reinforcing the overallsize of the bearings. The number of laminates and thickness oflaminates are designed in accordance to the requirement of load tobe transferred. Bearings having steel plates as reinforcement shallbe cast/compression moulded / vulcanized as single unit in a mouldunder pressure and heat.

5. Testing of Neoprene Bridge Bearings

In House quick production test of all bearings are done atClients/Representative presence. Tests are confirming to IRC 83Part II/UIC773 .Specification in accordance with acceptance testingon either level 1 or level II or Short/Long Duration compressiontest up to 800 Tons with horizontal shear up to 100 Tons can becarried out in our facility.
