Properties:
This product is also known as sym-tetrachloroethane, it isnon-flammable and non-explosive, colorless and transparent liquid.Its melting point is -44-36, the boiling point is 146.5. Itsrelative density is 1.58658g/cm3 at 62 deg. C (45mm Hg) andrefractive index is 1.49418 25/4. It is miscible with ethanol,methanol, chloroform, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, carbondisulfide, petroleum ether, dimethyl amide and oil while it isdifficultly soluble in water. The product will volatile with watersteam. It has chloroform smell. The impure product is readily todecompose to yield hydrogen chloride and trichloroethylene whilethe pure product is stable. The product is acid stable but readilyto decompose to yield trichloroethylene in the existence ofalkali.
Applications:
1. Used as solvents for medicine, shellac, resin and wax.
2. Used as coating detergents for aircraft wing, coatings removingagent, alcohol denaturant, metals cleaning agent, etc.,
3. Used as solvents in the production of herbicides andinsecticides.
4. Used as intermediates in the production of Trichloroethylene,Tetrachloroethylene, Pentachloroethane, Hexachloroethane
Packaging and Storage:
Contained in steel& plastic composite drums with the capacityof 200 liters. The net weight of each drum is 300 kg. Stored in acool dry place with good ventilation.
