Yohimbe is an evergreen tree native to western Africa. The drugyohimbine hydrochloride (yohimbine) , is derived from yohimbe baYohimbe bark has been used as an aphrodisiac (sexual stimulant)for many years. In the United States, supplements that arelabeled as containing yohimbe bark often contain very little ofit.
On the other hand, yohimbine hydrochloride, which is thesubstance in yohimbe bark thought to help with erections, is morecarefully controlled so that it does contain the labeledingredient. It is mainly used as a treatment for erectiledysfunction (male impotence), although there are concerns about itsside effects and interactions with other medicines, alcohol, andeven some foods. Yohimbine hydrochloride is often called simplyyohimbine, although it is made under several brand names.
