This Flashing Road Light is naturally charged bythe sun. As soon as it starts getting dark, the LED light come onautomatically and flash for up to 12 hours each night. They havebeen specifically designed for road safety and can help to preventserious accidents.
Flashing RoadLight includeda survey of motorist perceptions of different warning light colorcombinations and also field studies of the effect of selected colorcombinations on traffic behavior. The motorist survey, conducted atdriver licensing stations , indicated that the combination of blueand amber lights implied a slightly greater sense of hazard tomotorists than did the amber light alone.
However, this greater sense of hazard did not necessarily translateinto differences in how motorists believed they needed to respond.Field studies conducted at freeway locations investigated theeffect of selected, alternative vehicle warning-light colorcombinations on vehicle speeds, lane choice, and brakingactivity.
Researchers found significant reductions in speeds at a fewsites—but not all—for the amber and blue Flashing Road Light color combination when compared with speedsobserved when only an amber Flashing Road Light was used. Inaddition, the data suggested a trend toward increased brake usagefor the red, amber, and blue light configuration compared with theamber-light-only configuration.
There also was evidence that the amber-and-blue light configurationslightly increased the frequency of brake applications.Furthermore, the use of a law enforcement vehicle during testingresulted in significantly more brake-light activations than did aTxDOT courtesy patrol vehicle outfitted with the same FlashingRoad Light colors.
