HISTORY
With the entry of new Investments in January 2010 Surcorp S.A.
takes direction of Martesano transforming it into the global
trademark of seafood products processed and marketed by Surcorp
S.A.
However everything starts in 2001 with a research project for the
exploitation of the Tawera Gayi clam which was promoted by the
Fishermen Union of Chiloe an organization that since the inception
the company has been working together in the artisan extraction of
the clam.
From its beginnings to ensure that the extraction would be carried
out adequately the National Fisheries Service SERNAPESCA designated
the Centre of studies and development Pesquero Sur Austral CEPSA to
monitor its activity. Since 2007 this work is performed by
Chinquihue Foundation.
The processing plant in Ancud was designed exclusively for
processing and Tawera Gayi In 2003 with the support of Sernapesca
more than three hundred vessels of Ancud Calbuco Castro Quembi
Maullin Quellon and Carelmapu are called to participate in the
project and begin the first withdrawals in natural banks located in
the Butachauques and Desertores Islands.
The extractions were performed using a small scale fishing diving
technique ensuring the conservation and maintenance of the seabed,
and always in Type A certified water rated by the European Union
the highest quality rating that gives greater value to the product
and increases the demand on the market.
In the processing plant Surcorp S.A. has employed about 100 people
devoted to preparing the product for export a task that involves
subjecting the raw material to sand removal weighing sorting
grading cleaning bagging and freezing in strict compliance with the
Quality Assurance Plan (PAC)
Each month we produce up to 400 tonnes of Julian Tawera Gayi clams,
involving approximately one hundred fishermen in the extraction.
Authenticated and Audited.
