Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a minimally invasive procedure
used to perform follicular unit hair transplantation.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) differs from a Follicular Unit
Transplant (FUT) mainly in the way that the donor hair is
harvested. In FUE, small punches are made into the donor site and
hair grafts are taken out, as opposed to a strip in FUT surgery.
This offers an attractive alternative to patients who do not want
to have stitches for their hair transplantation.
The healing time for FUE is less than FUT. No stitching is
involved, hence recovery is faster. With greater precision and
higher magnification work that is involved with FUE, the physician
has better vision and is able to plan the number of Follicular Unit
(FU) hair grafts she takes out.
