Our farm is located in the town of San Vicente in the province
of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It occupies a fraction of 15 hectares
(within a larger area of property also owned by the company)
originally occupied by two 5000m2 horse stables. The first building
has 10 dwellings with capacity for 340 chinchilla families
each.
The second building has 16 separate dwellings destined for young
and future reproducers: 8 for females and 8 for males. Each of
these dwellings contains 350 cages for eight to nine month old
individuals, organized according to their phenotypic and genotypic
characteristics, some of wich are for breeding and the rest for
pelts.
There is another dwelling reserved for imported reproducers, with
capacity for up to 800 chinchillas, that are mated with the
healthiest and most exemplary young individuals determined by
genetic and fur characteristics. The farm is surrounded by
indigenous trees as well as many 80 year old Australian eucalyptus
trees. Since rodent incisors and molars need to be constantly worn
down, fifty weeping willow trees were planted for our chinchillas
in 2008.
Weeping willow also serves as a valuable dietary supplement and is
known for promoting digestive health in rodents. Our farm was
specially designed to provide the Chinchillas with an ideal habitat
that is completely free of contaminants. Furthermore, the dwellings
are designed to minimize animal stress, which is the primary cause
of poor biological development in this species.
Each and every skin is evaluated according to specific sets of high
standards, for example: volume of hair, size,c olor, finish,
veiling coverage and clarity. However, other factors also apply,
such as the length and density of the guard hairs, their silkiness
and resilience.
By maintaining these high standards, we ensure that the description
of each and every lot of skins is completely accurate.
Chinchillas San Valentin is proud to provide the necessary tools
for starting serious and professional breeding operations, such as
initial consultation, proper site selection and counseling so that
new breeders can maximize the return on their investment and
effectively plan self-sustainable projects.
Our professionals provide support in all of the necessary areas of
operation: veterinary, administrative, logistical, training, and
installations, among others. All reproducers are delivered with the
warranty and documentation of their specific pedigree. We provide
personalized professional support for two years, and will include
