METL s textile unit was established in the year 2002. We have all facilities from spinning to finished products with an objective to be recognized as one of Tanzania s leading manufacturers and exporters of Khanga & Kitenge fabrics, Bed sheets , Pillow covers, Water Proof Canvas, Tents, Tarpaulins and Canvas Covers and canvas made ups. We design our products keeping in mind the requirement of the customers and market trends. Our products are available in numerous classic to contemporary shapes in luxury materials, with functional elegance and impeccable quality.

Our textile units

21st Century Textiles Ltd (TCTL) Morogoro.

An ailing parastatal firm was purchased by METL as part of the Tanzania Government s parastatal privatisation process. Today, it is East Africas single largest textile mill and following massive modernization investment by METL post-acquisition, it has also become one of the most modern mills in the East African region.

Afritex Ltd (AL) Tanga.

Is an integrated textile mill with spinning, weaving, knitting, processing and printing facilities. The mill has a capacity to produce 1,800 M/tons of carded cotton yarns and 18 million meters of dyed and printed fabrics annually.

METL already captured a large portion of the Tanzanian and also African market with its range of Ketegnes and Khangas, Bedsheets, Shirting and Suiting Materials (forthcoming) and Blended Fabrics (forthcoming). Export products such as, grey fabrics and cotton yarns (carded and combed) are also in high demand and are expected to grow dramatically as the company develops further export opportunities within the European Union and the USA (though the African Growth Opportunity Act 2000).
