The company can be traced back to year 1865 when it was called Jinling Machinery Manufacturing Bureau established by Li Hongzhang during the westernization movement of Qing dynasty. It was regarded as the cradle of Chinese national industry in modern times. After the foundation of People???s Republic of China, it was restructured and named as Chenguang Machinery Manufacture. It was subordinated to Arms Industry Ministry and Aerospace Industry Ministry former and later.
